twentysixmiles – Synopsis Catalina Island, CA - Sean Murphy chose the road of the schemer and the dreamer. Jack Kincaid chose the straight and narrow. So how did they end up here? On Catalina Island. Together again. Rebuilding the dream. Jack Kincaid was sure of one thing. He had life figured out. He was, purely and simply, better at it than most people. Until he wasn’t. Until the day the curtain was pulled-back, and Jack was revealed. No one was sure how it happened. How the coolest guy in college…the guy with the girls and the motorcycle and the free spirit…the guy who lived his music…became a slave to the man. Jack told himself he did it for the wife, the kids, for God… and America even. He convinced himself that the world needed more guys like Jack Kincaid, that he was a prototype for a new generation. And it all made sense until the wife packed-up the kids and moved 26 miles away to Catalina (of all places). Suddenly, it was clear that God didn’t exactly approve of his plan and frankly, America didn’t care. Sometimes you have to sink to the depths to even have a chance at reaching the peaks. Luckily for Jack, there was one guy… one very off-beat, slightly determined dude who never gave up on Jack Kincaid. One guy who remembered The Renegade. One guy who believed, that in the end… cool is something you never lose. One guy who was sure of one thing: he had to get the band back together. Sean Murphy was Jack’s best friend, confidant, drinking buddy and band mate. But that all ended the morning of the wedding, when Murph bailed on his ‘best-man’ duties, and the world-as-he-knew-it ended forever… as Jack walked down the aisle with Murph’s little sister, burying the dream. Fortunately, time and the Universe have been good to Murph. He’s the de facto ‘honorary mayor’ of the island nation of Catalina, the leader of an internet scam (Uh….movement...) that is transforming the world for good… and he’s richer than Regis Philbin. Murph chose the road of the schemer and the dreamer. Jack Kincaid chose the straight and narrow. So here they are, together again, on Catalina. Rebuilding the dream. For Murph, it was a scheme miraculously transforming from just a little shady to enlightening: The Guatemalan Dream Prayers. But for Jack? He went for the kids, Walt 16, and Emma, 11. And stayed for the music. And um...Jennifer. He also stays for Jennifer. And so would you. The story continues with the beginning of Jack’s rehabilitation. Because when you get the band back together…the layers begin to peel away. When you do it on a sunny island, with your flip-flops firmly planted in the sand… it’s more like molting. And remember… dreams don’t die. They just go on hiatus. |
